2 Weeks To Go!

2 Weeks Time I’ll Be In Newcastle!

In two weeks time I will have arrived in Newcastle, and will be fully prepared (I hope!) for the Great North Run. I’ve done my last long training run, and am slowly getting everything prepared for the 18th. A lot of preparation has gone into this weekend (hotel, transport, running gear etc), so I’m determined to make the most of it!

My fundraising is going well, but I’m still hoping to raise some more before the race. Currently raised just under £350, it would be great to get to £400 before race day. If you can sponsor me, even £1, it would be greatly appreciated! It all goes to a fantastic cause that I’m happy to be supporting.

3 weeks tomorrow!

3 weeks tomorrow. That’s pretty much all to say!

Did a 11km run today on the roads, felt good, a bit of pain afterwards but all fine now. Hoping to do a 15km midweek and a 20km next weekend.

22km Run & Target Made!

22km Run & Fundraising Target Made!

Here’s an update with two parts to it (well, three I guess). Firstly, had a great time in Paris – it was nice to have a break from everything and to be a proper tourist!

The first bit of Great North Run news (less than 4 weeks, eek!) is this morning I completed a 22km run in the gym. Although it doesn’t have the same physical affect as pounding the streets, it’s just under 1km longer than the length of the GNR, so makes me feel a lot more prepared than I did yesterday. Did it in 1 hour 57 minutes, which puts me nicely on target for my 2 hours 30 minutes target for the 18th Sept.

The second bit of news is that I have made my £325 fundraising target for Leonard Cheshire Disability! Really happy to have finally made my target, and with more money pledged from people, hopefully will be able to raise even more!

To sponsor me visit http://justgiving.com/jamesrunsthegnr - it would be appreciated!

Less Than 5 Weeks To Go!

Less Than 5 Weeks To Go!

It’s less than 5 weeks now until the Great North Run and I’m rather excited! Am still waiting for my Information pack to arrive, hopefully it will be here by the end of the week.

I’ve decided not to do a 15km run this week as I’m going to Paris on Thursday and don’t want to do anything that might give me pain whilst I’m there! But when I’m back on Sunday I’ll be out running!

Will update once more before going away, especially if my pack comes tomorrow!

10km Run Completed

5 Weeks Tomorrow I’ll be in Newcastle!

5 weeks tomorrow I’ll hopefully have arrived in Newcastle ready for the Great North Run! The Saturday sees the Great City Games which I’m, looking forward to seeing, followed by the run on Sunday and a bit of sightseeing on the Monday.

Today I completed a 10km run (well, in the gym), which went well (see the picture on the left), not feeling any aches which is always a good sign! On Monday I’m hoping to go up to 13km, then next Friday hopefully 16km. I’m confident that I’ll have done a 20km run (again, in the gym), by this time next week.

In more exciting news, got an email from BUPA saying my Great North Run pack has been dispatched and will be arriving soon! It will feel very much more real once I have my running number and information pack in my hands!

Also thanks to all the celebrities that RTed my tweets yesterday, brought in almost 75 hits which is a record for a couple of months! Also had £10 pledged by someone, £20 if I finish in under 2h30mins, which gives me an incentive!

Please do consider sponsoring me at http://justgiving.com/jamesrunsthegnr or by text (see details below).

44 RTs and counting!

Today’s the first day in around 2 months that I’ve done some heavy promo for my fundraising, and it’s bringing in the RTs and hits. Since the GNR is my last event of 2011, I’ve decided to try and get as much traffic as I can to here. I’ve already got some ideas planned for 2012 (some completely different to running), but they are still very much works in progress.

So far I’ve had 44 RTs from a range of celebrities, from actors to footballers, athletes to presenters. It’s much appreciated, and helps to attract attention to what I’m doing.

Of course the purpose is to raise money for Leonard Cheshire Disability, so please do be kind enough to sponsor me. If every hit to the site equaled a 10p donation I’d be a fair bit closer to my target!

BUPA 10,000 – Race Photos

Realised I never posted some of my photos from race day, so here’s a selection of pictures from when I ran the BUPA 10,000 for Leonard Cheshire.

Great North Run – Less Than 6 Weeks To Go

Great North Run – Less Than 6 Weeks To Go

It’s less than 6 weeks to go until I run the Great North Run for Leonard Cheshire Disability. I’m getting more and more excited for it (and more nervous as well). I’ve been doing a fair bit of swimming as part of my training and am now stepping it up to be ready for running my first half marathon. Hoping to do a 10km run tomorrow and a 15km weekend on Monday.

I’m currently £60 off my target for fundraising, but with around £25 pledged for when I next see people, I’m more than confident of making my target, and hopefully exceeding it.

If you would like to sponsor me for this great cause, please visit http://justgiving.com/jamesrunsthegnr; it’s quick, secure and the money goes straight to Leonard Cheshire. Alternatively you can now sponsor me by text: it’s through Justgiving, and all you have to do is text JGNR99 £5 to sponsor me £5 (you can change the amount to whatever you like).

Keep checking back for updates, I’ll be updating more often now!

Sponsor Me.. By Text!

You can now sponsor me by TEXT!

Firstly, sorry for the lack of updates over the last couple of months; university, exams and so on have taken priority. However, I’m now on my summer break, so I should be able to update here more often! On the left is a photo of me after the BUPA 10,000 (30 May). The run went really well, really enjoyed the chance to run through central London, so much so that I have already signed up for next year’s race!

The main reason for this post is as I bring exciting news regarding my fundraising: you can now sponsor me by TEXT! Easier, quicker and safe, this is an awesome way to help me reach my target! The actual text is free to send, and 100% of the money sponsored goes straight to the charity!

To sponsor me this way, text “JGNR99” followed by your amount (£1, £5, £10 etc) to 70070 (make sure you include the £ symbol!). So, to sponsor me £5, text:

JGNR99 £5

to 70070. It really is that easy! I’m just £60 off my fundraising target, so hopefully this will bring me closer! You can still sponsor me online at http://justgiving.com/jamesrunsthegnr or in person. Thanks for your support, and please spread the word!

BUPA 10,000 2012 – CONFIRMED!

Having enjoyed the BUPA 10,000 so much this year, I’ve booked my place in the event next year! Taking place on the 27th May 2012, Olympics year, it will be run over part of the London Marathon course, and I am rather excited already! No plans yet as to who I will run for next year, will start thinking about that early next year.

First, and more importantly, I have the Great North Run to look forward to on the 18th September. Really excited for that, and my training is going to get into full swing over the next couple of weeks.

My fundraising total for 2011′s events (for Leonard Cheshire Disability) is sitting comfortably at £265, with a while to go until the GNR, I’m confident of reaching my £325 target! To sponsor me visit http://justgiving.com/jamesrunsthegnr.
